Are white kidney beans the same as great northern beans?

Trying a new recipe these days which calls for 'great northern beans', but I can only find 'white kidney beans' at my local grocery store. Are these two actually the same thing, or should I look for the exact ones mentioned in the recipe?

Honestly my brain is too tired to tell beans apart right now, but they are different. Great northern ones are smaller and milder, while kidney ones are big. Don't ask me to cook either of them today though, I need a 10-hour nap first.

Actually I am also looking up recipes for these. Are they both easily available in normal local grocery stores here, or do we have to order them online?

Strictly speaking, they have slightly different macros, but on my tracker app, the nutritional profile is almost identical. Both are excellent for fiber and lean protein. You can log them similarly if you are counting calories.

Both are great high-protein options if you are managing your thyroid like me. But remember to cook them completely because raw beans can mess with digestion. Also, keep track of your TSH levels regularly to see how dietary changes affect you.

They look like long-lost cousins, but they aren't the same. One is basically the athletic, larger kidney shape, and the other is just a chubby little oval bean. But once they are mashed in a curry, honestly nobody can tell the difference!

I literally just made this mistake last week while trying a new Mediterranean recipe. The great northern ones are much creamier and cook faster. White kidney beans are firmer and take longer, so adjust your boiling time accordingly.

Bhai, look-wise they seem very similar, but they are different varieties. Great northern is small and very soft when boiled. Don't get confused, just ask your local shopkeeper for safed rajma, it will work perfectly for your cooking.

They aren't exactly the same, but if you are short on time and cooking a recipe, they are easily interchangeable. Just swap them without overthinking. Save your time and use whatever is already in your pantry.

For general health, both these beans are very nutritious and clean out toxins. However, if you are experiencing severe bloating or stomach pain after eating them, don't ignore it. It is always better to consult a doctor to check for IBS.

They are different varieties of white beans. I use both quite often for making light soups because they are very gentle on the stomach. If you have bloating issues, just soak them overnight with a little hing, it really helps with digestion.

In our times, we just called all of them safed rajma or lobia and got on with life. Don't worry too much about these fancy Western names. Just use whatever white bean is fresh and boil it well with some ginger.

Yes, they are different but you can easily use lobia (black-eyed peas) or even double beans as an Indian substitute if you can't find them.
