Are walnuts bad for kidney stones?

Having had kidney stones in the past, I try to be careful about my diet. I eat walnuts regularly for their health benefits, but then I heard they might contribute to kidney stone formation. Should I avoid them now?

I had a 6mm calcium oxalate stone last year. Walnuts actually have moderate to high oxalates, so my doctor told me to avoid eating too many of them. Stick to almond or pumpkin seeds instead, and drink lots of water.

I ignored my diet restrictions and ended up in the emergency room with severe kidney pain due to stones. Please don't take diet advice lightly and consult your urologist before eating nuts like walnuts regularly.

If you are prone to stones, you need to watch your oxalate intake, and walnuts do contain a fair amount. It's better to balance your diet, stay super hydrated during workouts, and maybe swap walnuts for lower oxalate options.

When I got treated at Fortis, my doctor clearly told me that the type of kidney stone dictates what you can eat. You must ask your doctor clearly after getting your stone analysis done.

Yeah bro, my dad had to stop eating walnuts because they are high in oxalates which form stones. If you already have a history of stones, it is better to avoid them entirely.
