Are tomatoes bad for rheumatoid arthritis?

My mother suffers from rheumatoid arthritis, and we're always trying to find ways to reduce her inflammation through diet. I've heard some say that tomatoes can worsen inflammatory conditions. Are tomatoes bad for rheumatoid arthritis specifically?

I can only share what happened with me. When I stopped eating raw tomatoes in salads, my morning joint stiffness actually felt a bit better after a couple of weeks. But everyone's body is different, so it might not be the same for you.

I totally understand how stressful it is trying to find the perfect diet to stop joint pain. Some people feel better avoiding nightshades, but for most, tomatoes are actually healthy. Maybe try a simple elimination test for ten days and see how your body responds.

Please don't waste time self-diagnosing or cutting out foods like tomatoes if your joints are hurting. I ignored my joint pain for months thinking it was just a food allergy, and it got much worse. Go see a rheumatologist immediately for a proper checkup.

Honestly, I am too tired from staying up all night with joint pain to worry about whether a tomato is my enemy. But my doctor said they are fine, so I am going to keep eating my pasta and focus on getting some actual sleep tonight!

As a pure vegetarian, tomatoes are a major source of vitamin C and antioxidants which are actually anti-inflammatory. However, nightshade vegetables can occasionally trigger some people. I'd suggest consulting a clinical nutritionist before eliminating them.

I have been having this weird knee inflammation lately, and someone told me tomatoes trigger RA flare-ups. Now I am terrified to eat my daily meals. Has anyone else actually noticed their joints hurting more after eating tomatoes?

I find that drinking warm ginger-turmeric water in the morning helps my joint stiffness far more than cutting out tomatoes. But remember, if your joints are severely swollen or painful, home remedies won't cut it—you must see a rheumatologist.

Tomatoes are very low-glycemic, which is great for managing my blood sugar, but with RA, inflammation is a different ball game. If you are diabetic too, consult your doctor before making major dietary changes so you don't mess up your sugar levels.
