Are tomatoes bad for kidney disease?

I have a family history of kidney issues, and I'm trying to be proactive with my diet. I was told by a friend that certain foods, like tomatoes, might be bad for kidney health. Are tomatoes considered bad for kidney disease?

Yes, beta, because of the high potassium content, tomatoes are often restricted in advanced kidney disease diets. However, every patient's stage is different, so please consult a renal dietitian who can guide you on safe portion sizes.

Yeah, actually, tomatoes are super high in potassium, which can be really bad if your kidneys aren't filtering properly. My uncle has chronic kidney disease and his nephrologist specifically told him to avoid raw tomatoes and tomato soups completely.

I have been managing my health issues for over twenty years now. While tomatoes do have potassium, you don't need to panic immediately. Just get your regular blood tests done and discuss the reports with your doctor; they will tell you exactly what to eat.

They are rich in potassium, which is normally great for fitness but tough on weak kidneys. If you are dealing with kidney issues, you have to be very precise with your macros and mineral intake. Definitely run your diet plan by a sports doctor or nephrologist.

High blood pressure and kidney health are very closely related. Since tomatoes are high in potassium, they can interfere with kidney function if you already have issues. Please get your kidney function tests (KFT) done regularly and show them to your doctor.
