Are tb tests free?

My younger brother has had a persistent cough for a few weeks, and we're a bit worried. We want to get him checked for TB, just to be safe. Are TB tests free in government hospitals or clinics?

Yes, absolutely free. You just go to any government hospital or DOTS center and they will do the sputum test and chest X-ray without charging a single rupee. Don't waste money in private labs if you are on a tight budget.

Please don't worry about the cost at all. Under the government's National TB Elimination Program, all TB testing and even the entire course of medicines are completely free of cost at government health centers. Just walk in and they will guide you safely.

Hey! Yes, they are free at government dispensaries and public hospitals. If you prefer private labs, they do charge around 1000 to 2000 rupees depending on the test, but the government centers are super reliable and absolutely free.

My family physician explained that the Indian government provides free diagnosis and treatment for Tuberculosis under the NTEP program. Both the Mantoux skin test and sputum tests are free at government clinics, though private hospitals will charge their standard rates.

When we suspected TB in our family, we were so stressed about the treatment costs and it was emotionally draining. Finding out that the government provides all tests and medicines for free was a huge relief. Please don't stress, just visit the nearest government health center.
