Are tamales good for diabetics?

My husband has Type 2 diabetes, and we're always looking for diverse meal ideas. We saw tamales at a food festival and thought they looked interesting. Are tamales a good food choice for diabetics, maybe in moderation?

These modern international foods are often loaded with refined starches and fats which do not suit our Indian bodies, especially if you have sugar issues. It is always better to stick to simple, home-cooked foods like oats upma or ragi. Please eat such items with extreme care.

They are definitely not ideal for daily eating if you have diabetes, ho na. The corn masa dough has too many fast carbs. If you must eat, just have a small portion of the chicken filling and avoid the main dough, haan.

My sugar levels became very difficult to control after I started experimenting with foreign diets. Tamales contain high amounts of starch and fat which can be dangerous for diabetic patients. Please consult your physician before adding such foods to your diet.

It feels so depressing when you want to try new cuisines but your diabetes holds you back. I totally understand how frustrating this restriction is. While tamales are generally not good for sugar levels, don't lose heart, there are many other tasty low-carb recipes we can enjoy.

I manage my diabetes very strictly and I stay away from tamales. The glycemic load of corn masa is quite high, which means a rapid spike in blood glucose. Stick to high-fiber grains like whole wheat or sprouts instead.

I can only share what happened with my uncle who is diabetic. He had tamales during a trip and his blood sugar shot up significantly because of the corn dough. Since then, our family avoids them completely during gatherings.

Tamales are super tasty, but sadly they are mostly pure corn starch and lard. If you are diabetic, they can easily wreck your daily sugar targets. Maybe treat yourself to just a tiny bite if you have excellent control, otherwise, it's a pass!
