Are sweet potatoes high in carbs for diabetics?

My sugar levels have been quite erratic lately, and I'm really watching my carb intake. Are sweet potatoes considered high in carbs for someone with diabetes like me? Need to know if I should limit them.

My son was diagnosed with Type 1, and we have to count every gram of carb. Sweet potatoes do have carbs, but because of the high fiber, they spike blood sugar much slower than white potatoes. I give him a very small portion mixed with green veggies to be safe.

Listen, don't stress too much about carbs! Yes, sweet potatoes have carbs, but they are the good, complex kind. Just don't eat a plateful of it. A small piece as a snack won't hurt, chill.

During my checkup at Aster Medcity, the dietitian told me that sweet potatoes are carb-heavy but have a decent fiber profile. However, everyone's body reacts differently. You should consult your doctor to know how many grams of carb you are allowed per day.

My endocrinologist explained this clearly: 100 grams of sweet potato has about 20 grams of carbs. While they have a medium glycemic index, the glycemic load is what matters. Always eat them in a boiled form, never baked or roasted, as cooking increases the GI.

My father was just diagnosed with diabetes, and I am trying to learn about diet. I heard sweet potatoes have carbs but are still good. Can we give them to him with his evening tea, or is that too risky?

I have lived with diabetes for 25 years. Sweet potatoes have carbs, yes, but they never harmed me when eaten in moderation. The secret is portion control and a disciplined lifestyle, not completely banning natural foods.

At this age, even looking at a potato feels like it increases my sugar levels! Yes, they have carbs. If you want to eat them, you'll have to sacrifice your rice or roti for that meal. Health management is just a game of negotiations now!

When my sugar levels shot up last year, I strictly cut down on them. But once I got my HbA1c back to 5.8, my doctor allowed me to have small boiled sweet potatoes occasionally. They do have carbs, so your current control level decides if you can have them.

Look, we cannot completely stop eating carbs. Instead of buying expensive diabetic foods, just replace normal aloo with sweet potato in your sabzi. It has carbs, but it has much better nutrition and fiber for your daily budget.

I am not an expert, but in my personal experience, eating sweet potatoes during lunch doesn't spike my sugar as much as white rice does. I just make sure to monitor my readings after two hours to see how my body is responding.
