Are sweet potatoes bad for diabetics?

My neighbors keep telling me that sweet potatoes are very good for health, but someone else mentioned they can be bad for diabetics because they are sweet. I'm a bit confused now. Should I avoid sweet potatoes completely as a diabetic?

I totally get it, it is so confusing to figure out which root vegetables are safe to eat when managing diabetes. Sweet potatoes have a medium glycemic index, so they are not completely bad, but you should keep the portion small. It is always best to check your sugar levels afterwards.

Bro, they are actually better than regular white potatoes because they have more fiber. My uncle has diabetes and eats them boiled in moderation. Just don't overdo the portion size and you're good.

Since I manage thyroid along with blood sugar issues, I have to be very careful with starch. Sweet potatoes are a decent option but only in limited quantities. Make sure to get your regular blood tests done and discuss your diet during your doctor follow-ups.

I was very scared to eat them at first, but my dietitian cleared my doubt. Since they are rich in fiber and vitamins, they are actually good in moderation. I eat a small boiled sweet potato once a week and my blood sugar stays perfectly fine.

In my twenty years of managing diabetes, I have found that sweet potatoes are a much better alternative to regular potatoes. They don't cause sudden spikes if boiled and eaten in moderation. Just treat them as a carb source and adjust your meal accordingly.

Shakarkandi is actually very good if eaten roasted with a little ginger and lemon juice. It is a traditional winter snack. But remember to eat it in a limited quantity, as too much of any starch can raise your sugar.
