Are smoothies good after vomiting?

My little one had a bad bout of vomiting last night and is now feeling very weak. We want to give her something gentle that's easy to keep down and provides some energy. Are smoothies good to give to someone, especially a child, after they've been vomiting?

Definitely do not drink smoothies immediately after vomiting. Your stomach lining is highly irritated and heavy dairy or thick fruit blended drinks will just make you throw up again. Stick to simple ORS or coconut water for the first few hours.

Be very careful about what you consume after vomiting. If you also have fever, dizziness, or cannot keep any liquids down, it could be a sign of a severe infection. Please get it checked by a doctor instead of trying to manage it at home.

Hey, take it easy. Your stomach needs rest right now, so please avoid heavy smoothies. Just lie down, sip some electral or plain water slowly, and if you don't feel better soon, we should get you checked by a doctor. Take care.

According to clinical advice, the BRAT diet (bananas, rice, applesauce, toast) is recommended after vomiting. My doctor specifically advised avoiding high-fat or high-sugar blended smoothies as they can trigger further nausea and bowel irritation. Keep it simple with clear fluids.

Smoothies are very heavy and hard for a weak stomach to digest, especially if they contain dairy or nuts. It is much better to have light, easily digestible vegetarian options like warm moong dal khichdi or plain barley water once your stomach settles.

When my son was vomiting continuously, the doctor at Apollo clearly told us to avoid any milk-based or thick fruit drinks. He advised only clear liquids like rice water. Please ask your doctor clearly about the right diet for your recovery.

Don't trust random internet advice saying smoothies are good for recovery. Smoothies are thick and acidic, which is the worst thing for an upset stomach. Always verify with a medical professional before consuming anything heavy after vomiting.

I know how miserable and completely drained you feel after vomiting, and you just want to get some energy back quickly. But please don't rush into heavy smoothies right now. Give yourself some rest and stick to tiny sips of water first.

Agreed, smoothies are definitely too heavy for an upset stomach. Try sipping plain, warm ginger tea or coconut water instead to soothe your throat.

I once ignored severe vomiting and tried to self-manage with juices and smoothies, which made my dehydration so bad I had to be hospitalized on an IV. If your vomiting is severe or accompanied by intense stomach pain, please see a doctor immediately.
