Are refried beans bad for diabetics?

My family recently went to a Mexican restaurant, and 'refried beans' were on the menu. As a diabetic, careful food choices are important. Would these be a high-sugar item, or are they generally okay for my condition?

Man, I love Mexican food so much, but traditional refried beans can have a lot of lard or butter hidden in them. If you are diabetic, maybe avoid the restaurant ones and make them at home. Just mash boiled pinto beans with a bit of olive oil and spices, it tastes amazing and is much safer.

I can only speak from my own journey, as my husband has type 2 diabetes. We stopped buying the canned refried beans because they have too much sodium and preservatives, which caused his levels to fluctuate. Now we just use simple home-cooked rajma as a healthy alternative.

They aren't inherently bad since beans have a lot of fiber, but the canned ones are packed with salt and fat. If you are busy, just boil black beans or rajma over the weekend and mash them yourself. It takes 10 minutes and keeps your glycemic index low for weekday meals.

Ho na, bahar ka processed khana toh hamesha sugar badha deta hai. Refried beans mein fat aur salt bohot hota hai jo diabetes ke liye achha nahi hai. Ghar pe bina tel ke banayein toh thoda thik rahega, par portion control zaroori hai.

I have been managing my type 2 diabetes for 8 years now. Beans have a great amount of fiber, but refried beans can have hidden starches and fats if they are pre-packaged. I highly recommend checking your blood sugar before and two hours after eating them to see how your body reacts.

Hello friend! Beans are actually great for diabetes because they release energy very slowly. The problem with 'refried' is the extra frying in oil or lard. Try eating them simply boiled with some fresh onions, tomatoes, and lemon juice instead of frying them again.

Don't stress too much about cutting out everything you like, but do be careful with processed foods. If you really want refried beans, check the label for zero added sugar and low sodium, or better yet, make a batch at home. Keep an eye on your sugar levels and check in with your doctor regularly.
