Are probiotics good for diabetics?

Managing my diabetes for years, I'm always looking for ways to improve my health naturally. My neighbour swears by probiotics for gut health. Could they also be beneficial for someone with diabetes like me?

They can be a good addition to your routine, but don't buy those sugary probiotic drinks from the supermarket. Stick to sugar-free curd or actual supplements if your doctor recommends them. Don't overcomplicate it.

My dad has type 2 diabetes and he regularly eats sugar-free dahi with his lunch. He says it keeps his digestion smooth. Just check the labels on packed ones because some have crazy amounts of added sugar.

I totally understand worrying about what is safe to eat when managing diabetes, it can feel so overwhelming. Probiotics are generally safe and good for gut health, but it's always best to check with your doctor first so you can feel completely at ease.

Research suggests a healthy gut microbiome can assist in better glycemic control. My doctor advised that natural, unsweetened probiotics like home-set curd are excellent. However, always monitor your blood sugar levels and consult your diabetologist before starting any medical-grade probiotic supplements.

I cannot comment on the medical side, but I have diabetes and personally eat a bowl of fresh unsweetened curd daily. It has always suited my stomach well and hasn't caused any spikes in my sugar levels.

Haan na, managing diabetes is a daily task. Homemade dahi is the best probiotic option, cheap and safe. Just avoid those sweet readymade lassis, they have too much sugar!
