Are people with asthma more prone to pneumonia?

I have asthma, and I've always been careful during cold and flu season. My relative recently mentioned that asthmatics are more susceptible to pneumonia. Is this generally true, and should I be taking extra precautions?

Yes, having asthma makes your lungs more sensitive, which increases the risk of complications like pneumonia from lung infections.

Yes, asthma patients have inflamed airways, which can easily develop into pneumonia if they catch a respiratory infection. Please stay cautious.

I have mild asthma and my doctor always warns me to avoid too many ice-cold drinks in winter because they trigger my cold, which can worsen things. Enjoying warm soup and home-cooked meals is much better to keep your lungs happy and safe from infections!

I just recovered from pneumonia last month, and since I am asthmatic, it hit me really hard and landed me in the hospital. Please don't take any chest congestion lightly; go to your doctor early and keep using your preventer inhalers as advised.

Asthma ke mariyon ko thand aur dhool se bohot bachkar rehna chahiye, kyunki unhe fefde ki bimari jaldi pakadti hai. Agar khansi jyada badh jaye toh turant doctor ke paas jana chahiye, der nahi karni chahiye.

Yes, because asthma damages and inflames the airways, it is harder for the lungs to clear out mucus, making them a target for pneumonia. Keeping your asthma well-controlled with your prescribed inhalers is the best way to prevent this. Do visit your pulmonologist regularly.

My wife has asthma and she got severe pneumonia twice in the past. My advice is to get the annual flu shot and the pneumococcal vaccine after consulting your doctor. Also, never ignore a cold that settles in your chest—get it treated immediately.
