Are onions good for diabetics?

We use a lot of onions in our cooking at home, they're practically in every dish. My husband was diagnosed with diabetes recently, and I'm trying to adjust our meals. Are onions good for diabetics, or should we cut back?

My food logging app shows that raw onions have a very low glycemic index of around 10 to 15, which is highly favorable for diabetics. Adding them to your daily salads or raita is a great way to add flavor and fiber without spiking your daily carb count.

Onions contain quercetin and sulfur compounds, which some clinical studies suggest may help lower blood glucose levels. However, everyone's glycemic response is unique, so it is always best to monitor your readings and consult your endocrinologist for a tailored diet plan.

Thankfully onions are good for diabetes because avoiding them in Indian cooking is practically impossible anyway! Eat them raw in your salads, they are healthy and at least they won't make your blood sugar cry even if they make your eyes water.

Nature has given us so many beautiful vegetables to heal ourselves. Onions are very good for the blood and keeping the body balanced, but remember to keep your mind positive and stress-free too, as peace of mind is the greatest medicine.

As someone managing diabetes for 8 years, I can confirm onions are very safe. Just make sure you aren't eating them in sweet gravies or caramelized with sugar, as cooked onions can sometimes release more simple sugars. Stick to raw or lightly sautéed ones.

Onions are absolutely wonderful for diabetics! They have chromium which helps control blood sugar levels over time. I always advise people to eat them fresh in salads rather than frying them too much in heavy oils.

I read that onions can help lower blood sugar, but when I eat a lot of raw onions, I sometimes get bad acidity and bloating. Has anyone else with diabetes experienced stomach irritation from eating too many raw onions?
