Are mental health issues genetic?

There's a history of anxiety and depression in my family, with both my mother and grandmother having dealt with it. I'm worried about my own risk; are mental health issues genetic?

I used to panic so much thinking my children would inherit my OCD. It is true there is a genetic link, but environment also plays a huge role. Knowing this actually helped me focus on creating a calm home rather than worrying.

I have seen in our family that anxiety runs through generations. But that doesn't mean you are doomed to suffer. With good lifestyle, support, and proper guidance, you can break the cycle and live a very peaceful life.

We cannot change our genes, but we can change our daily habits. Doing simple things like chamomile tea, deep breathing, and keeping a positive environment at home can really help manage stress, even if it runs in your family.

Well, I definitely inherited my father's short temper and my mother's habit of overthinking everything! Jokes apart, genes do play a role, but so does corporate life. Just don't blame your parents for all your stress, haha.

According to the health articles I track, genetics only load the gun, but environment pulls the trigger. You might have a predisposition, but managing sleep and fitness using modern trackers can help keep your stress indicators stable.
