Are mental health days a thing?

After reading about burnout online, I sometimes feel like I need a proper break. Are mental health days an actual thing that people take in India, or is it more of a Western concept?

Actually they are a big thing now, yaar. Some corporate offices in Mumbai are slowly starting to allow them, but mostly people just take a regular sick leave. If you are feeling totally burnt out, just take a day off and sleep, no one needs to know the exact reason.

Bro, I took one last Friday because my anxiety was through the roof. I just told my manager I had a severe headache, which wasn't even a lie because stress causes that anyway. It really helped me reset my mind, definitely a real thing.

Taking a day off is good, but please don't just rely on mental health days if you are feeling consistently low. I ignored my chronic anxiety for months thinking a weekend break would fix it, and it became much worse. Please consult a professional therapist if it continues.

Yes, they are very much a thing and very important. Sometimes your mind just needs a break from the noise. I hope you can take some rest and feel better soon.

I have heard people talk about this on social media but I am too scared to ask my boss. Do Indian companies actually accept this if we tell them directly, or do we have to show a doctor's prescription for stress?

Haan na, mental exhaustion is very real. Our parents' generation didn't have this concept, but now times are different. It is completely okay to take a day off just to breathe and do nothing, ho na.

I totally get it, sometimes the mental fatigue is heavier than physical fever. It's so hard to explain to others but taking a day to just process your feelings is so necessary. You are definitely not alone in feeling this way.

Listen to me, don't stress too much about work. If your head is spinning, just apply for a sick leave tomorrow. Treat yourself to some good food, watch a movie, and just disconnect. You come first, okay?

My smartwatch shows my stress scores are super high on Tuesdays, so I started taking a mid-week break once a month. Tracking your sleep and heart rate variability really shows when you need a mental health day. It's totally valid.

If mental health days were officially allowed in my office, I would be on leave half the month, haha! But seriously, dark circles under my eyes don't lie. Sometimes you just need a day to sleep for 12 hours straight without guilt.
