Are mangoes ok for diabetics?

It's mango season, and I absolutely love them, but I have diabetes. My family keeps telling me I shouldn't eat them at all because of the sugar. Can diabetics really not have any mangoes, or is it okay in moderation?

This question comes up every summer! Yes, diabetics can have mangoes, but strictly in moderation. Try eating just one or two small slices as a mid-morning snack, rather than having a full mango after dinner. Always pair it with some nuts to slow down sugar absorption.

I used to absolutely panic and avoid mangoes completely after my diagnosis. But my doctor explained that they have a medium glycemic index and are fine in small amounts. Now I enjoy a small slice occasionally without any crazy spikes, so relax and just watch the portion.

We cannot completely stop eating what we love, otherwise mind gets frustrated. My husband has sugar, so I give him half a small mango during daytime, and then reduce the rice in his lunch. This simple balance works very well without raising his sugar.

You can definitely eat them, but there are clear rules. Only eat firm, slightly less ripe mangoes as they have a lower glycemic index. Never drink mango milkshakes or aamras, as liquid sugar spikes you instantly. Stick to eating small cut pieces.

Ghar ka paka hua aam thoda sa khane mein koi haraj nahi hai. Bas ek baar mein poora aam mat khaiye, thoda sa chota tukda lijiye. Aur dhyan rakhiyega ki us din baki cheezon mein meetha kam khayein.

Yes, but strictly control the portion size and timing. Having it as a standalone snack at 11 AM is much better than eating it with a heavy dinner. If you are busy, just prep small slices beforehand so you don't overeat. Check with your doctor to adjust your insulin if needed.

I track my glucose with a CGM and noticed that eating a small slice of mango right after a high-protein meal caused almost no spike compared to eating it on an empty stomach. Use a tracking app to see how your own body responds, as glycemic load varies.
