Are kidney stones inherited?

Many people in my family, including my grandfather and my uncle, have had kidney stones. I'm wondering if this means I'm more likely to get them too. Are kidney stones inherited?

Yes, family history does make a difference sometimes. Try not to worry too much, just keeping yourself well-hydrated is a great first step.

I totally get it, it can be really stressful when you see family members suffer and worry you might get it too. While the tendency can be inherited, a good diet and drinking lots of water can really help prevent them.

Haha, yes, they can be a family heirloom you never asked for! But don't panic, they are very treatable. Just make water your best friend and you can beat the family curse!

They can be inherited, yes. In my house, we use some home remedies like drinking fresh coconut water and warm lemon water to prevent them. It really helps, but always consult a doctor if the pain gets bad.

Yeah, my dad had them and now I got them too at 25. It is definitely genetic in some cases. Just keep drinking water and don't delay going to a doc if your back starts hurting.

Honestly, as if inheriting my father's hairline wasn't enough, I got his kidney stones too! Yes, they can be inherited. Just drink your water and hope for the best, because the pain is no joke.

They run in my family, and because I ignored the symptoms, mine got stuck and caused a bad infection. Please get a proper doctor's advice and a timely scan if you have a family history and feel any back pain.
