Are kidney beans the same as pinto beans?
I'm trying out some new Mexican recipes and they often mention pinto beans. We mostly use rajma at home. Can I substitute kidney beans for pinto beans, or are they completely different varieties?

They are from the same bean family but nutritional profiles and tastes differ slightly. Pinto beans are a bit creamier and lighter in color, while kidney beans have a thicker skin and hold their shape better. Both are excellent sources of protein and fiber for your daily diet.
No, they are actually different beans. Kidney beans are our usual dark red rajma, while pinto beans are lighter and have spots on them. Both are very tasty though, so don't worry about using either.
My mother used to say that all these local and foreign beans have similar strengthening properties for the body. When I asked my doctor about diet changes, he said pinto beans and kidney beans have slightly different potassium levels but both are very healthy. Just make sure to soak them well.
Nahi yaar, both are different. Pinto beans are light brown and speckled, mostly used in Mexican food like burritos. Kidney beans are deep red, which we call rajma. If you want to make proper Indian rajma, stick to kidney beans only.
I have cooked both over the years. In Punjab we only get rajma easily, but when I visited my son abroad, we tried pinto beans. They taste okay but lack that rich flavor of our red kidney beans. But you can use pinto as a substitute if you don't have rajma.
