Are hiccups a sign of vomiting?

My toddler often gets hiccups, and sometimes right after, he vomits a little. I'm trying to understand if there's a connection. Do hiccups usually precede or indicate that vomiting is about to happen?

No need to spend money on expensive doctors or stomach medications for this. Just try resting and having some ginger tea at home. If the vomiting actually starts and doesn't stop for 24 hours, only then plan a clinic visit to avoid unnecessary bills.

I once ignored severe hiccups and nausea thinking it was just normal acidity, but it turned out to be a severe gallbladder infection. Please don't sit on it if the feeling persists. If you feel feverish or have pain in your upper stomach, get it checked by a general physician immediately.

Beta, sometimes when there is too much heat or wind in the stomach, it causes hiccups and a feeling of nausea. Chew on a piece of fresh ginger with a pinch of black salt, or drink cool coconut water. It will soothe your food pipe and stop the vomiting sensation.

I had a terrible stomach bug last week and it started exactly like this, with crazy hiccups followed by vomiting. My doctor told me the stomach spasms cause the diaphragm to react. Try to stay hydrated with ORS if you start throwing up.

My mother always tells us to drink butter milk with curry leaves when we feel nauseous with hiccups. It really calms the stomach. However, if you are unable to keep any liquids down, please visit a doctor as dehydration can happen very fast.

My health tracker showed a spike in my heart rate yesterday when I had bad hiccups before throwing up. It happens because your vagus nerve gets irritated, which triggers both the hiccups and the nausea reflex. Logging your food intake might help identify what triggered it.

I agree that hiccups often precede vomiting, especially if you have bad acidity or food poisoning. Rest well and keep sipping warm water.
