Are grits ok for diabetics?
My friend who lives in the US was talking about eating 'grits' for breakfast. I have diabetes, and I'm curious if they are a suitable food for me. Are grits okay for diabetics, or should I not even bother trying them?

I am just trying to learn about diabetes-friendly foods for my family, so I might be wrong. But since grits are made from corn, won't they spike blood sugar levels quite quickly? If anyone here has tried them, how did your body react?
I always go to my consultant at Fortis whenever I have any doubts about my diet. Grits have a high glycemic index, which can cause sudden sugar spikes. It is always better to ask your doctor clearly rather than experimenting yourself.
I am so sleep-deprived right now that I read grits as groceries, haha. Honestly though, corn-based things usually have a high glycemic load which is tricky for diabetes. Better to ask your doctor instead of risking a sugar spike while you are already struggling to stay awake.
Oh I absolutely love breakfast foods, but grits are highly processed corn and can shoot up your blood sugar levels. If you are craving that texture, maybe try steel-cut oats or dalia instead? They are much safer for diabetes and keep you full longer!
With my thyroid, I have realized that metabolic health is very personal and needs constant monitoring. For diabetes, you definitely need regular HbA1c tests to see how foods affect you. Please follow up with your doctor before adding processed grains like grits to your daily diet.
