Are fever dreams real?

My friend told me she had a 'fever dream' last week, and it sounded really strange and intense. I've never experienced one myself, so I was curious if these are an actual phenomenon or just something people imagine when they're sick.

They are real in the sense that your brain is actively experiencing them, but the things you see are just illusions. When I had a bad fever, my sleep was totally messed up. Focus on recovering right now, and once your doctor clears you, light walks can help reset your sleep quality.

They feel so incredibly real that it actually terrifies me when I wake up! But medically, they are just vivid hallucinations caused by your brain overheating during a fever. It is very scary, but please try to tell yourself that it was just a dream and you are safe.

The dreams themselves are just tricks of the mind due to the illness. However, if you are getting frequent fevers or sleep issues, it is good to get some routine blood tests done. I realized my sleep improved massively once my thyroid levels were managed properly by my doctor.

No, they are obviously not real, they are just a side effect of high body temperature affecting your REM sleep. It's basically your brain glitching because of the heat. Take some paracetamol, lower your fever, and they will vanish.

I've had some wild fever dreams during typhoid, and they can feel incredibly lifelike. The best tip is to keep your room cool, keep a cold water jug nearby, and ask someone to sit with you if you feel disoriented. They disappear the moment your temperature drops.
