Are fever blisters hereditary?

My mother has always gotten fever blisters, and now I've started getting them too, especially when I'm tired. I was wondering if this is something that runs in families. Are fever blisters considered hereditary?

Fever blisters are not hereditary in the sense of being a genetic disease; they are caused by a viral infection (HSV-1). However, some people might inherit a weaker immune response to the virus, making them more prone to outbreaks. It is best to consult a dermatologist to understand your triggers.

I totally get it, seeing these painful blisters pop up repeatedly can make you feel like it's a family curse, especially if your parents get them too. But it's actually just a very common virus that family members easily pass to each other through close contact when we are young.

I used to panic thinking my kids would definitely get this because my father and I both have it. But then I learnt that it's just a simple viral thing, not genetic at all. It's very common and completely manageable, so please don't worry about it too much.

I ignored my recurring lip blisters for years, thinking it was just 'body heat' because my dad also had it. It became so severe that it caused painful scarring. Please don't ignore it like I did—go get it checked by a proper doctor and get the right medication.

My mom gets these blisters, and so do I, but honestly, I think it's because we both love eating super spicy street food which triggers them! While the virus itself isn't inherited, our bad food habits definitely are. Maybe keeping the diet mild for a bit can help.

Since I deal with high blood pressure, I've realized how much physical stress and low immunity trigger issues like fever blisters. They aren't hereditary, but overall lifestyle and stress management play a huge role. Do get a general health checkup done to see if your immunity needs support.

My grandmother used to say our family has 'heat body' which causes these blisters. However, when I spoke to my doctor, he calmly explained it is actually a dormant virus, not a family trait. Eating a balanced diet and keeping stress low is the best way to prevent them.

I just recovered from a nasty fever blister outbreak last week. My dad never gets them, but my mom does, so I always assumed it was genetic. My doctor cleared it up: it's not hereditary, just highly contagious, and I probably picked it up from shared cups years ago.

No, they aren't genetic. It's just a virus that spreads via shared items. If you are busy and don't have time for frequent outbreaks, just maintain basic hygiene at home and consult a doctor online for a quick antiviral prescription to keep handy.

In our families, we often share water glasses and towels without thinking, which is why everyone gets these blisters. It is not in the blood, just a simple infection. Keep separate towels for everyone, wash your hands regularly, and the problem will stay away.
