Are fever blisters and cold sores the same?

These small blisters keep appearing on my lip, especially when I'm stressed or have a fever. People call them 'cold sores' sometimes and 'fever blisters' at other times. Are they actually the same thing, or is there a difference?

Listen, they are just different names for the same issue on your lips. There is no need to get confused by these medical terms. Just avoid sharing cups or towels when you have them so you don't spread it to others in the house.

Yes, they are actually the exact same thing! I used to get so stressed thinking they were two different infections and that I had something worse. They are both caused by the herpes simplex virus, so don't worry, it's very common and nothing to panic about.

OMG yes, they are literally the same thing. I get them right before my college exams because of all the stress and late-night studying. It is super annoying but usually goes away on its own in a week or two.

Clinically speaking, yes, both terms refer to herpes labialis. If you get these frequently, I would highly advise visiting a dermatologist at a proper clinic. They can prescribe the correct antiviral medication rather than you trying random creams.

Yes, both refer to the same blister. You don't need to waste money on expensive blood tests or specialist consultations for this unless it is spreading wildly. A basic over-the-counter antiviral cream from your local pharmacy is very cheap and does the job fine.
