Are cavities black?

I've heard people say cavities are black spots on teeth. Is that always the case, or can they look different?

Actually, they can be light brown, yellow, or even chalky white in the initial stages. The black color usually appears when the decay is quite advanced or stained. I always tell people at the clinic to get a professional look rather than waiting for a dark spot.

Please don't wait for them to turn black! I ignored a tiny, painless yellowish spot on my back tooth thinking it was just a tea stain, and it turned into a massive infection. Go get a checkup immediately before it gets worse.

They can start as simple dull white spots on your enamel and gradually change color. In my experience answering many such queries here, waiting for a cavity to look black often means the damage has gone deeper. It's best to have a dentist clean and check it.

No, they can be grey, brown, or light yellow too. For your own safety, please don't try to self-diagnose by color. Always get it checked by a proper dentist so they can evaluate the depth of the decay.

Based on my experience, early dental decay often begins as a gentle white or light brown shade. Keeping our body in balance and practicing clean oral hygiene is helpful, but if a spot is changing, let a professional guide you gently.

I agree, they are not always black and can start as light brown or white spots. I highly recommend using a fluoride toothpaste to help strengthen those early areas before they get worse.

I used to panic every time I saw a dark spot on my molars, but my dentist reassured me that some dark spots are just harmless food stains. Cavities can be yellow or brown too. Don't worry, a quick checkup will clear your doubts easily!

They can be brown, grey, or even white. Honestly, don't waste time trying to analyze the color yourself. Just book a quick 10-minute dentist visit on your weekend to get it sorted out realistically.

I totally get it, we always expect cavities to look like big black holes from cartoons. But they can actually look like subtle brown lines or yellow patches. Getting a professional opinion will really help ease your mind about it.

They aren't always black, son. Sometimes they are just a pale yellow or brown. You can keep your mouth clean by rinsing with warm alum water, but remember that only a dentist can properly treat a cavity once it has formed.

No, they can be brown or yellow as well. I keep my diet clean and full of fibrous veggies, but I still watch out for any discoloration. It's always best to have a doctor check any spot, regardless of the color.

They often start as soft white areas where the minerals are lost. As a diabetic, I have to be incredibly careful because high sugar levels can speed up silent decay. Keep an eye on any color changes and consult your dentist regularly.
