Are buffalo wings bad for diabetics?

I love eating out occasionally, and buffalo wings are a guilty pleasure. My diabetes diagnosis means I need to be more careful. Are buffalo wings really bad for diabetics, or can I have them sometimes in moderation?

Well, the chicken wings won't make your sugar shoot up, but that sweet, sticky BBQ-style buffalo sauce certainly will! If you can resist the urge to order the sweet ones and stick to simple, dry-rubbed or baked wings, you are good to go. Just don't eat a whole bucket while watching cricket and you'll survive, haha!

I totally get it, craving something spicy and delicious like wings when you have to constantly watch your sugar is so hard. The good news is that chicken wings themselves are mostly protein and fat, which don't spike sugar directly. But you have to be very careful with the sauces because many commercial buffalo sauces contain hidden sugars or honey, and deep frying them with breading adds extra carbs.

If you really want to eat wings, the best option is to make them at home. Outside restaurants use cheap oils and sweet sauces that are bad for sugar levels. Just buy fresh chicken, marinate with basic spices and a little butter-hot sauce, and bake or air-fry them. It is much healthier, cheaper, and perfectly fine for a diabetic snack.

Honestly, my dad has diabetes and we still have wings during family cheat days. We just make sure they aren't battered or fried in thick flour. If you get them grilled or baked with a simple hot sauce, it's actually a low-carb snack. Just avoid the sweet dips and you should be totally fine!

As someone managing high blood pressure, I always look at the sodium and fat content. Restaurant buffalo wings are loaded with salt and bad fats, which can affect your heart health, and that is directly connected to diabetes management. If you eat them occasionally, it is fine, but make sure to keep tracking your blood pressure and sugar levels regularly.
