Are black cherries good for diabetics?

My husband has type 2 diabetes, and we are constantly looking for fruits he can enjoy. I saw black cherries at the market, and I'm wondering if black cherries are good for diabetics or if they have too much sugar.

I just started managing my diet and I'm a bit nervous. Are black cherries safe to eat daily, or should they only be eaten once in a while in very small portions?

They have a low glycemic index and are rich in antioxidants, which is beneficial. However, individual glycemic responses vary, so it is highly recommended to consult your diabetologist or nutritionist on how to include them.

Please monitor your levels properly. I once ate fruits blindly thinking they are natural and healthy, but my HbA1c shot up because I ignored the early signs of high sugar. Go get a proper clinical test done before changing things.

My family usually suggests eating local jamun for diabetes, but my doctor told me that fresh black cherries are also good in moderate amounts. Always trust your doctor's advice on portion sizes over general trends.

Look, cherries are good but don't go eating half a kilo at once. Eat a few as a snack, check your sugar with a machine after two hours, and you will know exactly if they suit you or not.

They are a great quick snack option to carry to the office. They don't spike sugar quickly and keep you away from office biscuits. Just pack 5-6 cherries in a small box and you are set.

I agree with the others. Fresh black cherries are absolutely fine for diabetics, just keep the quantity small.

Yes, they are fine. They contain anthocyanins which actually help with insulin sensitivity. Just eat them fresh and avoid any canned cherry syrup, which is basically pure sugar.

I have had diabetes for fifteen years, son. A small handful of cherries in the afternoon has never caused me any issues. Eat them fresh and don't worry too much, just keep up with your daily walks.

At this point in life, even looking at a sweet makes my sugar jump! But jokes aside, a few black cherries are a decent treat when everyone else is eating dessert. Just don't finish the whole bowl.
