Are baked sweet potatoes good for diabetics?

Always on the lookout for healthier snack alternatives, especially with my diabetes. Sweet potatoes are often called healthy, so I was thinking of baked sweet potatoes. Are they a good option for diabetics?

Haan, shakarkandi is actually much better than regular potato because its glycemic index is lower na. Par check the portion size, plate bhar ke nahi khana hai. Thoda sa roast karke nimbu dalkar khao, taste bhi badhiya lagta hai aur sugar bhi control mein rehti hai.

I was researching this for my dad recently. From what I read, sweet potatoes have more fiber which slows down the sugar release, but they still have carbs. So they are better than white potatoes, but still need to be eaten carefully. Better to ask his doctor in the next checkup.

When we visited the specialist doctor at Kokilaben Hospital for my mother's diabetes, they clearly explained that even healthy carbs like sweet potato need strict monitoring. Please don't rely on general advice; ask your doctor clearly to give you a customized portion limit based on your latest blood reports.

My HbA1c went up to 8.2 last year but I managed to bring it down to 5.9 recently through strict diet control. I used to eat small portions of baked sweet potato as a evening snack instead of biscuits, and it didn't spike my sugar at all. Just make sure you don't over-bake them to mushy consistency as that increases the GI.

Shakarkandi is quite cheap and easily available, which is great. But instead of guessing if it suits you, it's cheaper to buy a basic glucometer and test your blood sugar before and two hours after eating it. Regular lab tests are expensive, so tracking at home helps you plan your diet within budget.

With PCOS and insulin sensitivity, I always have to think twice before eating sweet potatoes. They do have great nutrients, but baking them can sometimes concentrate the sugars. I suggest eating a small piece along with some nuts or seeds to balance the glycemic load, and definitely talk to your doc first.
