Are baked potatoes bad for diabetics?

Baked potatoes are something I enjoy as a side dish sometimes, especially when eating out. I've been diagnosed with diabetes, and now I'm cautious about everything. Are baked potatoes something diabetics should avoid?

Baked potatoes have a very high glycemic index, which means they convert into sugar very quickly in your bloodstream. It is best to avoid them, or at least eat them in very small quantities with high-protein sides.

I am newly diagnosed and still learning about what I can eat. Is there any way we can cook potatoes that makes them safer, or should we completely avoid them?

My dear, potatoes of any kind are not recommended for sweet-sickness. In our traditional way, we use boiled sweet potatoes in very small amounts or use methi seeds to control sugar. Please follow your doctor's advice.

I have had type 2 diabetes for fifteen years now. In my experience, baked potatoes spike my sugar levels faster than almost anything else. Trust me, switching to roasted sweet potatoes or just avoiding them altogether makes managing sugar much easier.

A simple, balanced diet combined with regular pranayama does wonders for managing diabetes. Baked potatoes can be quite heavy and increase sugar levels quickly, so it is better to consume lighter vegetables like bottle gourd or spinach.

I totally get it, potatoes are such a staple in our Indian kitchens and it is so hard to give them up. But sadly, baking them actually increases their glycemic index even more, so they can cause a rapid sugar spike.

Yes, baked potatoes can be tough on your sugar levels because baking makes the starch digest very quickly. If you really want potato, try cooling boiled potatoes first before eating them, as that reduces the glycemic impact a little. But still, keep the portion very small.
