Are apples high in acidity?

Having a bit of acid reflux after certain fruits has been an issue for me recently. My aunt suggested that apples might be a bit acidic. Is this true, or can I continue eating them without worry?

I totally understand why you are asking this, as someone who used to get terrible panic attacks over every little stomach burn. Apples do have malic acid, but they are generally alkaline once digested. However, if your stomach is already very sensitive, they might trigger mild discomfort initially.

In my experience, sweet, fully ripe apples are very gentle on the stomach and do not cause acidity. Doing a few minutes of Vajrasana after your meals and eating slowly can also help calm your digestive fire naturally.

I get mild burning in my chest sometimes after eating raw red apples, so I was wondering if this is common? Should I try peeling the skin or baking them slightly to see if it helps, or is that not recommended?

I used to ignore severe chest burns thinking it was just normal acidity from fruits and tea, but it turned out to be severe GERD that required proper treatment. While sweet apples are usually safe, please see a specialist if your reflux is constant, rather than just changing your diet.

Actually, sweet apples are not very acidic, but green apples can be. Since dealing with my thyroid issues, I have learned that chronic acidity can sometimes be linked to other metabolic changes. If you suffer from frequent acid reflux, it is best to get a proper checkup done by a doctor.
